About tetext
tetext is a free tool for moving text and files between your devices in real time, right in the browser. It is for the moments when you need to get a link, a note, a code snippet or a file from your phone to your computer — or the other way around — without emailing it to yourself or sending it through a messenger.
How it works
- Open tetext.me on the first device. A private room is created automatically, with a six-digit code and a QR code.
- On the second device, scan the QR code with the camera, or open tetext.me and enter the code.
- That's it: whatever you type on one device appears on the other as you type. You can also paste text, send files up to 20 MB and scan text from photos.
Both devices only need a browser and an internet connection. They don't have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and nothing needs to be installed.
Privacy by design
tetext is built so that the server never has access to what you send:
- End-to-end encryption. The two devices agree on a key directly with each other (ECDH P-256), and text and files are encrypted with AES-GCM-256 before they leave your device.
- The server is only a relay. It forwards encrypted messages between the two devices in a room and does not store them.
- Temporary rooms. A room exists only in the server's memory and is deleted after 10 minutes of inactivity or when the device that created it leaves.
- No accounts, no cookies, no analytics or advertising trackers.
The details are in the privacy policy.
What you can do
- Sync text between two devices in real time.
- Send files up to 20 MB, encrypted chunk by chunk.
- Recognize text in photos and screenshots (English and Russian) — right on the device, or with Yandex Images if you choose to.
- Paste an image with Ctrl+V: recognize its text or send the picture as a file.
- Use it anywhere: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad.
- Switch between light and dark themes, English and Russian interface.
